Perry Farrell is arguably responsible for fathering in the alt-rock movement that changed the face of rock music in the early nineties. Born Perry Bernstein in New York 1959 to a diamond jeweler father and an artist mom, Perry eventually would move to Los Angeles in his teens. There Perry discovered the punk rock movement that was sweeping the area in the early eighties. Perry changed his name to Perry Farrell (peripheral), and began setting out to make music of his own. Around 1983 Perry found his first musical outlet fronting a pre-existing band called Psi Com. Following the demise of that band, Perry went on to front his most well known project, Jane's Addiction, in 1985. Following the initial break up of Jane's Addiction in 1991, Perry founded Porno for Pyros in 1992. In 1997 and then again recently Perry gave Jane's Addiction new life. In the mean time, he has also released a solo album and tours as a DJ under the moniker DJ Peretz.
