Bio:
John Acquaviva is known primarily through his association with, and recordings for, Plus 8 Records, the label he founded with Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman). Acquaviva is also one of the most prized techno DJs around the globe, as well as a multi-label entrepreneur -- he helms Probe and Definitive Records in addition to Plus 8. While growing up in London, Ontario, Acquaviva became a music lover and started DJing in 1980. He gradually accumulated a small bedroom studio of equipment to produce music similar to the Chicago and Detroit records he enjoyed, when he met Richie Hawtin in 1989.

Hawtin was a DJ with a wish to produce as well, so the two began recording together. Their first single, "Elements of Tone" by States of Mind, became the first release on Plus 8 Records. When later releases -- by Acquaviva and Hawtin, plus Kenny Larkin, Mark Gage and Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J) -- pushed Plus 8's pedigree into the stratosphere during 1991-92, Acquaviva and Hawtin formed Probe and Definitive to spread the wealth. Eventually, Acquaviva took over Definitive, pushing the label closer to his vision for progressive house and techno with releases by Ian Pooley, Clemens Neufeld and David Alvarado. His DJing quickly entered the world-class level as well, encompassing an incredibly wide range of music -- from straight-ahead techno, Chicago house and disco to Michael Jackson and Brazilian pop. His first mix album, Transmissions, Vol. 1, was released in 1996. Two years later, Acquaviva shared the Studio !K7 mix album X-Mix, Vol. 3: Enter Digital Reality with Hawtin and released his second solo jaunt, From Saturday to Sunday Mix. CreamCD followed in 1999. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

More about Acquaviva:
Planes, trains, and automobiles... one way or another John Acquaviva is always on the go and off to the next club or party. John began Djing in the late 70s and locked down his first club residency in 1982. Since then, he has appeared at well over 4000 parties with over half of them being at the international level. He has DJed for a cumulative audience in the millions all over the world, and has the air miles to match.

John has built up an extensive resume of DJ mix CD's over the years anchored by 6 volumes of the critically acclaimed annual Saturday to Sunday series. 2004's Volume 5 of the series was followed by the very well received Back to Basics - New School Electrohouse [DJ Mag's Mix Compilation of the Month December 2004]. John continues to work as a producer and remixer, creating and reworking for such label and artists as Mute, Hor Speil Music, Serial Killer, Mantra, Fad Gadget, Alex Dolby, Deco II & DJ Karotte.

John began his international career in 1989 with Richie Hawtin by founding the influential and world-renowned Plus 8 Records. John and Richie not only launched their own careers but also those of Dan Bell (as the trio Cybersonik), Kenny Larkin and Speedy J to mention just a few of these luminaries. In 1992 they also founded Definitive records to feature house music, launching the likes of Robotman, Barada, Omegaman, along with a host of other house talents. Although noted mostly for his DJing, John was actively involved as engineer, producer and artist in the formative years of these artists and labels.

As one of the most accomplished and versatile DJs around, John is well known for his vast record collection of over 50,000 pieces of vinyl. His collection spans a significant period of club music and 12" culture from the early disco days till present. He is also well known for always having the newest and latest music long before anyone else. He is acclaimed as a DJ's DJ, noted for his versatility, and is regarded as one of the very few DJ's who can enhance any room, party or festival by appealing to a number of different crowds and sounds

Always looking forward and at new possibilities, John has branched out beyond the core of DJing and music production to further immerse and pioneer music techonology. He has been instrumental in the discovery and launch of FINALSCRATCH, Beatport.com [the worlds leading electronic music download service] and DMD - a new Euro-Japanese 3g phone music delivery service.

2005 will be the re-launch of Definitive Recordings under Definitive Digital. As well, look for another exciting and crazy year with regular appearances at clubs and locales such as Smart Bar-Chicago, U60-Frankfurt, the End -London, Danzoo-Madrid, Athens, Paris, Berlin, Cologne and most of South America, a visit to Japan and everywhere else in between!
